Weekend trip to Seville and Cordoba!

Our weekend excursion to Seville and Cordoba was one of my favorite experiences so far.  Both offered some truly breathtaking sites and architecture.  In Seville we visited the Catedral de Seville and Parque Maria Luisa.  The Catedral de Seville was the most immense stone structure I've ever been in.  The giant vaulted ceilings and incredibly ornate religious pieces where just amazing.  The view from atop one of its towers was incredible as well.  Everything about that building was awe inspiring and it even housed the alleged remains of Christopher Columbus!  I've never been to something as historically significant as that.

Parque Maria Luisa offered just as picturesque views as well.  In the Plaza de Espana theres a moat in front of an amazingly beautiful semi circle building.  Its something you would only ever see in travel magazines and be in awe in how pretty it is.  It was fantastic.  Aside from Plaza de Espana the park itself is just as beautiful with many flowers and fountains.  During our stay in Seville I got to catch a glimpse of the procession of the Virgin Mary as it passed our hotel.  I didn't get to see it up close due to huge crowd of people but apparently the large heavey figure is carried by hand by many men.  It was a really cool cultural experience to see the procession and see how excited everyone was to catch a glimpse or to follow it through the city.  Its carried through the city until 5 am!

In Cordoba we visited the famous La Mezquita de Cordoba.  This building is an impressive record of history that is reflected through the types of architecture in each of its segments.  Its many columns and original structure was built my muslims and later came under the control of Christians who did a series of renovations through history.  Its really cool to walk through it and see the transition from Mulsim architecture to Gothic to Romanesque.  Its pretty amazing.
