Mi Barrio!

So the street I live on in Granada is called Pintor Zuloaga which actually took me a long time to say correctly and I still have problems sometimes.  Its situated very close to Rio Genil which is great because running alongside the river is one of the more socially accepted ways to run here and I love doing it.  If you go north alongside the river it gets increasingly rural and you'll run into a large outside gym.  Outside gyms here are pretty common and they remind me of play ground equipment, but for adults.  I think their a fantastic idea.

Probably the most common establishment you'll see in my neighborhood are bars which is quite different than in the US.  There' as bar, or multiple bars, on almost all of the streets you see.  This reflects the spanish culture of having a beer or glass of wine with most meals and chatting with friends for extended amounts of time.  These places are most popular around 7 or 8 when it seems like everyone is out enjoying the cool evening and meeting up with friends or family.  Its really nice actually.

I think the only thing that competes with bars is Pastelerias.  Pastelerias are bakeries that sell bread or sweet pasteries and they're everywhere and delicious.  Other places to get food are pretty specific such as fruitierias, pescadorias, and carnerias but you'll find a general grocery store every now and then too.  Oh! and there are plenty of farmacias where you can purchase over the counter medications and things like that.
One other thing is the abundant amount public spaces such as plazas and parks.  Theres plenty places to sit and chat with friends or family. These places get very busy as well around the same time as the bars and they're all beautiful and very well kept.  I love the amount of public places I think its something that really brings the community together and is unfortunately something that we usually lack in the U.S.

  1. I agree, Mateo. I love the public spaces in Granada. They are perfect for catching up with friends and relaxing. Is there a better t.v. show than what you see on a 'typical' afternoon from a cafe? I think not.
